Metrics & Dimensions in Bing

The Bing module builder in SiteStats lets you combine Bing Webmaster Tools metrics with dimensions to create KPI tiles, trend charts, and tables.

A metric is a number such as Clicks or Impressions. A dimension groups that number, such as Date, Query, or Page.

For example, “Clicks by Date” shows search traffic trends over time, while “Clicks by Query” shows which searches drive traffic from Bing.

Available Metrics #

Clicks #

The number of times users clicked your site from Bing search results.

Use this to measure organic search traffic from Bing.

Impressions #

The number of times your site appeared in Bing search results.

Useful for measuring visibility even when users do not click.

CTR #

Click-through rate, calculated as clicks divided by impressions.

Helpful for evaluating how well your snippets perform in Bing results.

Avg Position #

The average impression position for query or page breakdowns.

This metric is intended for table reports where results are grouped by Query or Page. It is not available for date-only trend charts in the Bing API.

Available Dimensions #

Date #

Groups data by day.

Use this with line charts to track click and impression trends over time.

Query #

Groups data by the search terms that triggered impressions and clicks in Bing.

Useful for keyword research, content ideas, and identifying opportunities to improve CTR.

Page #

Groups data by the page URL that appeared in Bing search results.

Useful for finding which landing pages perform best in Bing and which pages have high impressions but low clicks.

Choosing the Right Visual #

  • KPI: Best for totals like Clicks or Impressions across the selected date range.
  • Line chart: Best for trends over time when using the Date dimension.
  • Bar chart: Useful for simple comparisons, but tables are usually better for Query and Page breakdowns.
  • Table: Best for Query and Page reporting, especially when using Avg Position.

Tips and Limitations #

  • Avg Position is table-focused: If you want Avg Position, use a table with Query or Page selected.
  • Use multiple metrics for context: Pair Clicks with Impressions and CTR to understand whether changes are driven by ranking, visibility, or snippet performance.
  • Order by Clicks for Top lists: For Top Queries and Top Pages tables, ordering by Clicks highlights the terms and pages that actually send traffic.
