Metrics & Dimensions in Search Console

The Google Search Console module builder in SiteStats allows you to combine search performance metrics with dimensions to create KPI tiles, trend charts, and detailed tables.

A metric is a measurable value such as Clicks or Impressions. A dimension groups that value, such as Page URL, Search Query, or Country.

For example, “Clicks by Page URL” shows which pages attract traffic from Google Search, while “Clicks by Date” shows how search traffic changes over time.

Available Metrics #

Clicks #

The number of times users clicked your website in Google Search results.

This is the most direct measure of organic search traffic.

Impressions #

The number of times your site appeared in Google Search results.

Useful for understanding visibility, even when users do not click.

CTR (%) #

Click-through rate, calculated as clicks divided by impressions.

Helps measure how compelling your titles and meta descriptions are in search results.

Avg. Position #

The average ranking position of your site in Google Search results.

Lower numbers indicate higher rankings. Useful for tracking SEO improvements over time.

Available Dimensions #

Page URL #

Groups data by the page URL that appeared in search results.

Ideal for identifying top performing landing pages and pages that need optimization.

Search Query #

Groups data by the search terms users typed into Google.

Useful for keyword research, content planning, and discovering new ranking opportunities.

Country #

Groups data by the country of the searcher.

Helpful for understanding geographic performance and international SEO.

Device #

Groups data by device type such as desktop, mobile, or tablet.

Useful for identifying mobile vs desktop performance differences.

Date #

Groups data by day. Can be used with line charts to analyze trends.

Best suited for monitoring traffic growth, seasonality, or the impact of SEO changes.

Choosing the Right Visual #

  • KPI: Best for headline numbers like total Clicks.
  • Line chart: Best when using Date to track trends over time.
  • Bar chart: Best for comparing breakdowns such as Country or Device.
  • Table: Best for detailed breakdowns like Top Pages or Top Queries.

By combining metrics and dimensions thoughtfully, you can understand not just how much traffic you receive from Google Search, but where it comes from, what keywords drive it, and how visible your content is.
