This quick start guide will help you install SiteStats, connect your data sources, and begin viewing analytics inside your WordPress dashboard. SiteStats is designed to be lightweight, fast, and easy to configure, making it a great alternative to heavyweight analytics plugins.
Installation #
- Install the free SiteStats plugin from the WordPress dashboard under Plugins → Add New and search for SiteStats Analytics.
- Activate the plugin once installation completes.
- After activation, a new SiteStats menu will appear in the WordPress admin.
Setup Wizard #
After activating the plugin, you will be taken to the Setup Wizard. Follow the prompts to connect Google and Bing.
Connecting Google and Bing allows SiteStats to connect with the data in your Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools accounts.
The data from these is then displayed in the charts and tables within SiteStats, allowing you to see all the data from these sites within a single dashboard.
Connecting to Google #
Connecting to Google will allow you to connect any Google Analytics site that you have setup under your Google account. It also allows you to connect any site that you have setup within Google Search Console.
Connecting to Bing #
Connecting to Bing will allow you to connect to any site that you have setup within Bing Webmaster Tools.
Create Starter Modules #
After connecting Google and/or Bing, you can now create some starter modules. These are simple modules created for you to get a feel for the dashboard and what it can look like.
You can visit each of the connectors (Google Analytics, Search Console, Bing, WordPress, WooCommerce) to add new modules such as charts, tables and KPI numbers that will be useful to you.
Understanding Connectors #
A connector is a small module that communicates with an external analytics service. Each connector handles:
- Authentication (OAuth2 login)
- Fetching metrics and dimensions
- Data mapping for the SiteStats dashboard
When you visit the Settings page for the first time, you will see a list of all available connectors along with a button to connect each one. Simply click the Connect button next to the service you want to enable, and follow the login instructions.
Viewing the Dashboard #
The Dashboard page displays visual summaries of your website performance. You will find:
- Traffic charts
- Engagement metrics
- Search performance summaries
- Device and location breakdowns
Each chart updates automatically based on your selected date range. The free version includes common views, while the Pro version adds more modules, customizable widgets, and deeper reporting.
